An average person has got 28-32 teeth in the oral cavity. The maximum number means that all the “wisdom teeth” are present, but not everyone has his or her four “eights” erupted. A full-fledged chewing of food, the normal functioning of the gastrointestinal tract, as well as the shape and expression of the face depend on the number of teeth. Unfortunately, by the mature age some of them are lost. Absence of timely treatment of teeth and gums, trauma, genetic factors are also among the causes. Only prosthetics will help find lost health and attractiveness.

Types of prosthetics

Prosthetics is replacing a lost unit of the dentition with prosthesis in the form of an artificial structure. The latter can be installed either on the remainder or the surface of the tooth, or it can be a more complex system designed to replace several teeth or the entire jaw. In this regard, the following types of prostheses are distinguished:

CROWNS

A crown is a construction in the form of a cap. In this case, a large role is played by the material from which the prosthesis is made. In modern dental practice metal-ceramic, ceramic products and crowns of special alloys, namely zirconium dioxide and aluminum oxide, are used. The latter are considered the best one for today. Durable and aesthetic, they will function for many years. Often crowns are combined into a bridge – a prosthesis that replaces several teeth at once. When installing the bridge, one has to “sacrifice” healthy teeth in order to use them for fixing the prosthesis.

MICROPROTESIS

If the tooth is preserved but requires its full restoration, tabs, veneers, lumineers and prostheses in micro-locks are used. The tab is the best alternative to fillings and it is installed inside the tooth. Veneers play the role of an external prosthesis and are superimposed on the surface, cover up chipping, gaps and cracks, give the teeth the correct shape. Lumineers, in fact, perform the same task, but these linings are thinner than and as strong as possible. The prosthesis on the micro locks allows you to avoid grinding a healthy tooth and use it as a support.
